I know you are curious, what is dead sea ? Why is it called Dead sea ? Are there graves of people under the sea bed ? I am here to answer all your questions and tell you the most amazing fun facts about this water body.
#1 What is dead sea ?
The Dead Sea is a huge salt lake that borders Jordan and Israel. It’s a hypersaline lake (science-talk for really salty) that’s unlike anywhere else on the planet.
The body of water gets its name from the fact that virtually nothing can live in the high concentrations of salt. The Dead Sea is completely void of plant or animal life, though some bacteria and fungi can survive in the harsh environment.
Because the Dead Sea is so salty, people can easily float in the water due to natural buoyancy. If you’re not a very good swimmer, you’ll get a kick out of floating around in the water like a balloon in a swimming pool.
#4 World’s first free resource (not talking about wikipedia) :
The Dead Sea is mentioned in the Bible and was one of the world’s first health centers. Products from the water were used in Egyptian mummification rituals and for making potash for fertilizers.Yeah you’re right all the scary mummies were formed due to this sea. Another reason for calling it a dead sea !
#5 It’s really deep man !
The surface of the water is 423 meters below sea level making it one of the lowest above-ground elevations on the planet. The Dead Sea is the deepest hypersaline lake in the world at 377 meters deep.
#6 Dead sea scrolls :
Between the years 1947 and 1956, there were scrolls discovered AT Khirbet Qumran in the west bank which are called the greatest manuscript discovery of modern times. Scrolls are related to ancient Jewish Sect called the Essenes.
Egyptian queen Cleopatra used a lot of cosmetic products made from its minerals and established cosmetic factories around the shores of dead sea. Now you know why that hoe-bag was super hot and happening.
#8 It kicks every other sea in the nuts !
Dead Sea is around 8.6 times saltier than a normal Sea. It’s a total Sea-mer if the ocean bed was a cricket ground ! (Apologies for the bad joke.)
