What is Happiness ?
Before you can achieve true happiness, you’ll have to first understand the meaning of happiness. It is not the rush of dopamine through your brain. It’s not a high paying job, not a beautiful spouse, nor even your sense of superiority over others. For most people, happiness comes through a concept of “Competition”. You become happy when you do better than your peers. You become happy when you look better than your peers. You become happy when you earn better than your peers. Just take a minute off and think about the things that made you happy last week. You’ll find 90 % of them came through “Competition”.
Do you really think the sense of superiority is a true happiness ? If you think this way, you should read this article till the end. Just imagine, you have everything you need. A medium sized house, a good family, a decent job. So now, what your mind will do ? A human mind always keep on thinking. Now it will start thinking how I can get better. The reason our mind thinks this way is the society we grew up in. The society taught us to be a better person. It never taught us to be a satisfied person. This, my friend, is the root cause of all problems and unhappiness in your life. Trust me, once you understand the meaning of true happiness, you’ll never be sad. And one day you’ll look back and say “How meaningless my life was..” So make a point in bold in your mind that :
If happiness comes to your mind through competition or a sense of superiority over others, it is a fake happiness that will drag you down to a pit of never ending efforts and no satisfaction.
So what happens when you adopt “Competitive Happiness”. You got a good job, your mind will always keep you struggling to get better than your friends. You got sufficient money, your mind always push you to get even more to get a sense of superiority because that is the base of happiness in your mind. It is like a vicious circle that will take up your entire life period and by the time you’ll realise that everything you did was unnecessary, you will grow old and regret for what you have done. You’ll miss those moments that could be the happiest memories of your life, but you gave them away to get ahead in the competition whose prize is nothing but an unsatisfied life. So whenever you start doing something, think if the thing would be sufficient for you. Never think if it would be better than others or not.
Sometimes life doesn’t give you everything you want, but it will give you everything you need.
How to achieve true happiness ?
So if these things are not happiness, then what is ? Here’s the answer.. You will achieve true happiness when you complete the purpose for which you were born. Everyone has a reason to come in this world. You just need to find and fulfil it. And don’t think you’ll be happy only once after completing your goal or dream. Break your dream in small destinations and achieving each small milestone will bring you closer to your goal and give you true happiness. If you have any problems achieving your goal or if you think, you are any less than a superhuman life form, I have written an article to give you a head start on your dream(Read it only when you finish this one)
The second most important ingredient in achieving true happiness comes from understanding and adopting the thing that gives you utter satisfaction. You can find below article very helpful in finding a life of satisfaction :
There’s one more kind of happiness that will bring you utter satisfaction: Help Others. Put a smile on someone’s sad face, and you’ll remember your kindness and feel like you have done something in your life. In that way, even if you do nothing else, your life will be of some meaning.
When life gives you little disappointments, think of the big picture !! ..and when life gives you a big disappointment, find happiness in small things. Be happy… Always….
